Does Your Brand Make These Mistakes On Social Media?

Ring ring! It’s me again, your social media guru! I know you’ve been on the edge of your seats waiting to see what I have in store for you in this week’s blog post. This week, I dove deep into the company, Reformation. As most of you probably know, Reformation is Revolve’s biggest competitor. Whether you are comparing their online social media presence, or cult-like following, the two brands align very closely. So, without further ado, let’s begin comparing both companies Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to see who takes the crown.

Facebook, let’s go!

As many of you know from my previous posts. The suggested number of posts according to Meltwater is one a day (or less). After evaluating each platform it is clear that Reformation follows these guidelines much closer than Revolve does. On average, Revolve posts three times a week (at most), which is a little lower than suggested. For this reason specifically, Reformation takes the win. Today, staying consistent with a posting schedule is key because it is one of the simplest ways to grow your brand.

Tweet Tweet

Twitter is the home for celebrities to show their personalities, and connect with fans. However, for brands this is slightly different, and sometimes forgotten. Revolve’s Twitter is pretty much non existent. This is a huge mistake on their part because not only do they rarely post, but they’ve also missed an opportunity to engage. Buffer’s, “How to Engage With Your Social Media Followers,” breaks down simple ways to increase interaction between brands and followers. Whether this is responding with a question, emoji, or gif, the point is that, anything is better than nothing at all! So, for this reason, Reformation takes the crown (again). I was very surprised with how consistent Reformation’s Twitter is, but disappointed that the constant that is posted was the same as their Facebook. As a follower, who actually wants to see the same thing over and over again? Not me!

Can’t Forget the Gram

The moment you’ve all been waiting for…the Insatgram results are in! I’m sure you’ve guessed it but Revolve is a winner for Instagram. There are very few brands who have quality, and consistent content like Revolve. Whether it is posting behind the scenes action, or posting on a schedule, Revolve wins. Reformation has failed to establish any voice on Instagram, and it is extremely rare that they ever respond or repost their followers content. My classmate, Lauren, noticed that Revolve is the king of using user-generated content. This mean, Revolve encourages their followers to submit their own content by using hashtags such as, #REVOLVEme. Because of the creative ways Revolve has marketed themselves, they have gained millions of followers (almost 4 million), where Reformation is about 1.5 million. For these reasons, my vote goes to Revolve for being the most engaging, and entertaining Instagram page.

As a consumer, I love both of these brands, and will continue to purchase both of their clothing. I do wish Revolve would better their Twitter presence, and become more active on Facebook. However, Reformation has great examples of active Facebook, and Twitter pages. So, I have a challenge. Go to your favorite brand, find their competitor, and see how they compare on social media. Comment your findings below, and follow along for my next blog post.
